Hi, I'm Anum Khan. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Honors College at Stony Brook University in Fall 2023, with a major in political science, concentrating in American politics. I am also a pre-medical student with diverse experience in healthcare. I have shadowed in multiple specialties including, Orthopedic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Radiology and Vascular Surgery, with exposure to both clinical and operating room patient care. I am proficient and genuinely enjoy public speaking and presented research I was involved in starting from high school. I was the youngest presenter at the 13th Annual Women in Medicine Research Day at Stony Brook Hospital in 2019 and presented on my research of The Role of the Wound VAC in Cancer Recurrence. One of my most meaningful experiences in college was serving as the Vice President for UNICEF at Stony Brook. Each week I chose and presented different topics (i.e. the Turkey-Syria earthquakes, Women's history month, UNICEF's WASH program, the rights of refugees and more) to educate our members and others. In addition, I created inter-club collaboration events, including fundraisers, such as our collaboration with Pakistani Student's Association for a Halloween pumpkin painting and carving night during which we raised funds for the floods in Pakistan. In college I maintained a high level of academic performance, (cumulative GPA 3.95) and received the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award for three consecutive semesters of maintaining a 4.0 GPA. I value being a well-rounded, collaborative individual and I possess outstanding skills in communication and problem solving. As a well-rounded individual I have pursued an untraditional pre-medical route by completing all the extra requirements of the Honors College in addition to a degree outside the traditional science majors that pre-medical students typically pursue. I have multiple interests such as politics, health, psychology, sports, music, and enjoy interacting with and understanding the needs of people at all ages and walks of life. My skills include public speaking, working in groups, leading teams, creativity, listening to others’ ideas and above all, maintaining a perseverant attitude in all the plans I set my sights on. I am eager to learn more and work diligently towards my goals. Thank you for reviewing my resume.
Functioned as the sole scribe to Dr. Kim and his PA and NP at both the Women's Pelvic Health and Continence Center (awarded center of excellence) and Men's Urology Clinic.
Working on clinical trials from beginning to end with principal investigator and sponsors to facilitate daily trial activities and comply with research protocols. I ensured participants are correctly following guidelines and are being treated in an ethical manner, collecting study data, documenting adverse events both related and unrelated to the study, writing IRBs and communicating with participants about the study progression and their symptoms. Served as the bridge between patients and physician and advocated for their concerns and scheduled any extra appointments they may need. Additionally functioned as the intermediate between patients and the company representatives of the clinical trials regarding all questions they had about trial devices and symptoms.
Collaborated with approximately 50 different emergency medicine attendings as well as several trauma surgeons and trauma surgery residents to document emergency department charts and neurology check notes for every critical care and trauma patient within a shift (3pm-1am). Professionally and effectively communicated with EMS, patients, and their families to obtain vital signs, past medical history, symptoms, current medications etc. Communicated with both emergency medicine physicians and residents to record full physical exams, develop patient care plans, and document EKG and lab interpretations for each patient.
Dr. Dashti's research focuses on cerebrovascular disease/stroke. I am currently co-authoring a meta-analysis on hyponatremia and its association with ischemic stroke.
I worked as a scribe to Dr. James Nicholson, the director of the Joint Replacement Center at Stony Brook Hospital. I was hired through Scribe America. However, Stony Brook Orthopedics is no longer working with Scribe America which is why I no longer scribe there. I worked in the clinic alongside Dr. Nicholson documenting patient charts and watching office procedures. I am familiar with orthopedic terminology and have a strong passion for orthopedics as that is the speciality I want to practice.
