Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU)
Provide specialized care in a 24-bed AACN Beacon Award-winning Neuro Critical Care Unit caring for critically ill neurology, neurosurgery, stroke, trauma, ENT, and OMFS patient populations.
• Deliver comprehensive critical care nursing to high-acuity medical, surgical, neurological, and post-operative patients.
• Manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation, advanced neurological monitoring, vasoactive infusions, sedation, airway management, and invasive monitoring.
• Perform advanced neurological assessments and rapidly identify changes in patient condition requiring immediate intervention.
• Care for patients following thrombectomy, craniotomy, cerebral aneurysm repair, intracranial hemorrhage, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and complex neurosurgical procedures.
• Manage intracranial pressure monitoring devices, tracheostomies, free-flap monitoring, and post-operative neurosurgical recovery.
• Participate in rapid response interventions and emergency stabilization of critically ill patients.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, rehabilitation specialists, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
• Serve as a nursing preceptor and mentor supporting orientation and professional development of new nursing staff.
Provide perioperative and postoperative nursing care within a state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center supporting orthopedic, urology, podiatry, endoscopy, and general surgery services.
• Perform comprehensive pre-operative assessments and surgical readiness evaluations.
• Review patient histories, diagnostic studies, laboratory results, and communicate significant findings to providers.
• Deliver Phase I and Phase II PACU recovery care including airway management, pain control, hemodynamic monitoring, and post-anesthesia assessment.
• Monitor for post-operative complications and implement timely nursing interventions.
• Provide individualized patient and family education regarding procedures, recovery expectations, medications, and discharge instructions.
