RECRUIT BASIC MILITARY TRAINING
The Navy Small Arms Marksmanship Instructor (SAMI) trains unit-level personnel required to be armed in the performance of their duties. Small arms instructors possess the necessary knowledge and skills to train, qualify, and sustain unit-level personnel in the safe handling and employment of pistols, rifles, and shotguns in accordance with OPNAVINST 3591.1 (Series), and other U.S. Navy directives and guidelines that govern the arming of security and law enforcement personnel for the protection of Navy personnel and assets in direct support of Fleet-wide Force Protection and law enforcement requirements.
As a Military Customs Inspector I was responsible for ensuring ll passengers, crewmembers, accompanied baggage, and equipment boarding any DOD-sponsored aircraft departing and or arriving from an overseas area into Japan was to be inspected or examined prior to departure or after arrival for any item subject to customs duties or contraband.
Provides public safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws, and promoting good community relations. Identify, pursue, and arrest suspects and perpetrator of criminal acts. Record facts and prepare reports as well as document incidents, activates, photograph and draw diagrams of crime or accident scents. Review facts of incidents to determine if criminal acts or statute violations covered by California Penal Code, U.S. Criminal Codes, Uniform Codes of Military Justice, California Vehicle Codes, and US Naval Directives to include Base Orders. Testify in court to present evidence or act as witness in traffic and criminal cases. Process prisoners, and prepare and maintain records of prisoner bookings.
Patrol specific areas in Police marked vehicles or on foot, responding promptly to calls for service. Monitor, note, report, and investigate suspicious person and situations, safety hazards, and unusual or illegal activity in the patrol area. Monitor traffic to ensure motorists observe traffic regulations and exhibit safe driving procedures. Issue citations or warnings to motor vehicle ordinance violators and conduct investigations for DUI, Narcotics and conduct Standard Field Sobriety Tests (SFST).
Duties also included, performing Force Protection assignments; which include monitoring and maintaining perimeter security, security of entry points, access controls, implementing operational security measures and the protection of assets involving national security.
