Puja Parmar, Pramod Dudhe, The Implications of Migration and Remittances for Urban India Empirical Study based on NSS Data, Indian Journal of Economics, Issue No. 387, 04/01/17, Assessed the migration and remittance receipt trends for urban India based on unit level data on migration and employment and unemployment particulars of the NSSO 64th Round (2007-08), covering 125,578 observations. Demonstrated the significant role of remittances in poverty alleviation, asset accumulation and development of households. Compared the marginal spending behavior of the remittance-receiving households to the households that did not receive remittances and validated that the shift in budget share is in conformance with Engel's law.
