In this position I learned time management and efficiency while picking groceries for customers orders. I was also building customer service skills as I was constantly moving around the store throughout my shift. These skills were also strengthened while taking orders out to customers and handling phone calls in the department despite only being 16 at the start of the position.
I held this position during the summer of 2019 to gain more experience as an STNA before starting college in the fall for nursing. I learned how to take vital signs on patients, how to draw up and give shots and vaccinations, how to assist doctors on in office procedures, how to fill out and send referrals to hospitals or other care facilities, and how to properly write up prescriptions for patients. Learning how to read and reaction to patients feelings and comfort them was also a huge skill I learned in this position.
I was able to obtain my STNA license my last two years of high school through White Water Career Center in Connersville Indiana. I was able to opt out of classes the last semester of my senior year and work to get hand on experience as an STNA. This job taught me many valuable skills such as how to keep my emotions separate from my job, how to help residents based on their needs and disabilities, and how to create and carry out a care plan that worked for myself and the other aides on the unit.
