Working as a ramp agent is one of the best ways to learn to work as a team
I worked as a ramp agent for almost 2 years
Being a ramp agent taught me lots of skills
With the experience I have now as a former ramp agent, I consider myself to be a team player, which is a very important skill needed in that field
Communication is also a very important skill, I learned to communicate to my supervisor whether it was to help the crew or sometimes even ask for help
As a ramp agent, my job was to ensure the plane was offloaded and loaded correctly and on time
It is all about working as a team
During my time there, there were also times where our supervisor had to step out for a minute so the crew and I were in charge of the flight
In some circumstances, either cargo or luggage had to be offloaded, so I had to make sure the right cargo/luggage was offloaded
Something else the job taught me was to work under pressure and problem-solving
For example, on occasions the company was low on man power, so I had to manage to finish the flight with the people we had available
Before the flight the crew and I had to make sure to gather all of the equipment that was needed such as belt loaders, tugs, LD3s or LD7s
During my time there, I saved the company from lots of flight delays by helping other crews that were low on people or time
One reason I loved this job was because I'm a physical person when it comes to jobs, I like to move around and be active, help whoever I can, and learn more as I go, which is why being a ramp agent is a perfect opportunity
