I helped oversee a 3,500 acre family farm of corn, soybeans and wheat for most of my career before entering the steel industry. I joined Nucor Coatings Corporation in 2023 and worked in the Receiving Department handling incoming and outgoing coils by mostly by rail. I have been with Big River Steel since January of 2025 in the position of Paint Line Exit Operator with some cross training on the galvanizing and pickling lines.

I always try to keep safety at the forefront and and work to maintain an incident free environment. Which to me means the personal safety of myself, my teammates, and other personnel on-site while also avoiding losses in production or property damage.

  • Primary responsibilities are recoiling the strip after the painting process, ensuring proper coil weights and lengths are produced, ensuring proper samples are taken, and ensuring proper coil identification with stenciling and labels.
  • Work with inspection to monitor for strip or paint defects using surface inspection software and sync the line speed with the oven temps to ensure proper paint adhesion.
  • Monitor and adjust a quench and dryer system in process to ensure the strip is cooled after exiting the ovens.
  • The Exit position is also responsible for coordinating and communicating the line status and conditions to the other line operators and and ensuring a 100% safe working environment in regards to line movement and process actions.
