Seeking an interview for the SPED teaching position at Farmington Junior High School. I am teaching CCA half-time at Granite Park Junior High, and have been searching for full-time positions closer to home, and specifically in SPED. I am admitted to the SPED program at WGU, and intend to start classes in March regardless of whether I get hired for this position. Prior to teaching, I was a longtime small business owner of a barter exchange, a uniquely challenging and unusual industry. I was responsible for managing 200 memberships, accounting, hiring and firing, and new lead generation, among innumerable other things required of small business owners. I grew the business from nothing in 2007 to over 200 businesses when I sold it in 2019. I found work with another company I liked very much, but after six months of working eight hours a day in my basement when COVID hit, I needed a job that would get me out of the house, and that ended up leading me to teaching. I subbed for Davis School District almost every in-person school day during the 2020-21 school year, and found I liked it much more than I expected. I then spent the following year as a student advocate at Roy Junior High, and fell in love with that age group despite their frequently vexing personalities. Last year I got my first taste of what it's like to be a full-on teacher, in what I think could accurately be characterized as a challenging district and a very low-income area, and this year, much more so. I love the junior high age group, seemingly much more than the average person, and feel enthusiastic and energized being able to interact with them every day despite the challenges that come with early teenagers. I believe that beyond the last few years working in the school system, I also have a lot to draw on from my business experience that can be helpful to students as well as helping to make me a better teacher. I hope we get a chance to interview, and thank you for your consideration.
