As a floorhand for Helmerich and Payne my daily duties as a roughneck are very physically demanding, I work the rig floor making connections with drill pipe, pulling slips, assembling bha, running casing up and down the pds, rigging up the rig, setting up iron that holds up to 13000 pounds of pressure, making stands, and conducting maintenance on the rig, working 16 hour days in freezing cold weather with little to no breaks at all
It's a 6 man crew that keeps the rig running 24/7
There's heavy lifting, use of heavy equipment, use of many tools such as collar clamps, chain tongs, hoists, hydraulic brakes, etc
Tripping in 10,000 feet of pipe into the hole, Tripping it back out to replace the drill bit than tripping back in to continue drilling
Theres lots of chemicals and gases to be aware of, lots of chemicals we have to mix to maintain the mud weight to pump down the hole
I also worked the monkey board pulling back pipe that weigh hundreds of pounds
Plant Operator
Superior Silica Sands
01.2024 - 08.2024
As a plant operator for superior silica my day to day tasks consisted of changing screens quickly, changing the cams inside the rotex's that have little to no wiggle room, going into the dryer to remove flights that can get up to 200+ degrees, working in the rotex building to fly up screens, balls, cams, b decks for hours while using a respirator
Checking on ports making sure they re clean and clear of any debree and rocks
Going up to the silos to check sand levels when needed, using man lifts to go change damaged or fallen rollers, climbing bucket elevators to go unclog them when the sand was too wet, driving water trucks to spray down location and keeping it moist to keep the sand from flying as much, and operating heavy equipment such as excavators to feed the tunnel to keep sand flowing onto the conveyor belt
Using skidsteers to keep the plant clean or to organize the rejected sand from the good sand, flipping the totes that fill up with dust from the bag houses, maintaining the slurry system and keeping the hoses in check, shoveling the tunnel to keep sand and mud away from the rollers, brackets and belt to prevent wear and tear, keeping an eye out on all the conveyor belts, checking for any holes, tears, cuts, gashes or anything that could stop or affect the production of the sand
Frac Operator
Halliburton
01.2023 - 12.2023
My duties as a Frac hand for Halliburton consisted of heavy labor for 12-15 hours a day for two weeks straight
With Halliburton I worked a schedule of 14 days on and 7 days off with a drive from my hometown to west Texas of anywhere from 9-11 hours to the man camp closest to the Frac site than another 30 minutes to an hour and a half drive in the company vehicles the Frac site
We worked in all weather conditions, snow, rain, dust storms, sand storms, hail, heavy winds, temperatures from freezing 8 degrees to scorching hot 115 degrees
It's a fast paced job that required a week of physical training and classroom training of the hazards and risks that come with the job from things as deadly as h2s to things as small but certainly still dangerous trip hazards and hand placement
The day to day job tasks were performing maintenance and repairs to the Frac pumps, such as driving them out of line disconnecting them from the manifold, un rigging the iron and hoses once they're blead down from all the pressure they hold, and capping them and gathering all the tools and equipment needed to perform maintenance on the pump
The pumps maintenance needed to be done quickly but also efficiently because every pump matters during each stage
There are clamps
Rings, seals, valves, packing, sleeves, seats that can be damaged or blown that we needed to replace
Once they were repaired we just do the process of rigging the pump back up to the manifold and connecting everything back to it to continue on to the next stage
With Halliburton I was trained and taught how to operate heavy equipment such as telehandlers, man baskets, skid steers, forklifts, blenders and excavators
Lots of knowledge on tools was also needed to conduct the day to day operations
Tools from as large as jackhammers to as small as screwdrivers were used on a daily basis
There was also lots of pressure up to 12000 psi on all the iron and and hoses that we needed to know how to handle and maintain incase of an emergency
