My name is Abdullah Kafaji. I Am originally from Iraq. I moved to Houston when I was 11, and I currently live in San Antonio. I am a passionate and enthusiastic individual. I am always looking for ways to improve and be more efficient. I am currently studying neuroscience at The University of Texas at San Antonio, and I aspire to apply to medical school after I graduate. My dream is to work in the medical field to help people and learn in the best possible way that I can. In my college journey, I have had many experiences that showed me how I can improve the field I’m so passionate about. I shadowed at multiple clinics, and I also shadowed and volunteered at multiple hospitals. The biggest revelation for me is when I observed the medical field in my home country, Iraq. I observed a neurology clinic and the GIT (gastrointestinal tract) wing of Marjan hospital in Babylon, the city I was born in. This experience showed me how outdated and dangerous the medical field in Iraq was which triggered this sense of purpose in me that one day I would bring western medical standards to Iraq.
