- Installed and configured Oracle Database and Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) on UNIX (HP-UX, Sun Solaris) and Linux server environments for two major clients - Westpac Bank in Australia and XEROX worldwide. This involved tasks such as sizing hardware, configuring the operating system, installing and configuring the Oracle software, and tuning the database for optimal performance.
- Interfaced directly with customer stakeholders, including IT management and database teams, to discuss their requirements, propose appropriate database solutions, and collaborate on the development and implementation of those solutions. This required strong communication and problem-solving skills to understand the client's needs and translate them into effective technical designs.
- Implemented successful disaster recovery strategies by leveraging EMC shared disk array replication at the operating system level. This ensured that in the event of a primary site failure, the database could be rapidly recovered from the replicated storage at a secondary location, minimizing downtime and data loss.
- Maintained VERITAS clustering between the clustered database nodes, closely monitoring for any failovers of the databases between the servers. This high availability configuration allowed for automatic failover of the databases in the event of a node failure, providing continuous database uptime for the clients.
- Planned and implemented comprehensive disaster recovery and high availability solutions using Oracle RAC and Oracle Data Guard standby databases. This included tasks such as setting up the standby databases, configuring the data replication, testing failover procedures, and documenting the DR processes to ensure the clients' critical data and applications were protected.
