  • Pediatric RN at the Diagnostic Therapy/Sedation Clinic. I work in the day treatment clinic providing infusions from chemotherapy to monoclonal antibodies. I also work in the sedation clinic where I assess and administer sedation medications to facilitate various procedures from bone marrow biopsies to MRI scans.
  • Communicate with healthcare team members to plan, implement and enhance treatment strategies.
  • Educate family members and caregivers on patient care instructions following infusions, reactions and post procedure cares such as circumcision.
  • Perform bedside triage on incoming patients and determine severity of symptoms/ illnesses. Contact appropriate provider team based on clinical assessment and patient needs, and work on rescheduling for low blood counts or illness preventing sedation.
  • Explain course of care and medication side effects (chemotherapy agents and sedation medications)
  • Comfortable and competent with the EMR, documenting treatment delivered, medications administered, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
  • Assess and treat patient reactions in a timely and calm manner
  • Assess and treat complications of sedation, including laryngospasm and hypotension.
  • Complete thorough sedation intake assessments, working alongside provider to implement sedation plan specific to each patient and their needs.
  • Administer sedation medications and manage patients appropriately until discharge.

  • Worked in the outpatient pediatric hematology/oncology clinic
  • In my role as sickle cell nurse coordinator, I used clinical expertise to advocate for patients and enacted pain management therapy plans specific to each patient.
