As a newly graduated PMHNP, my personal philosophy is rooted in my commitment to the mental health and well being of women and children, particularly during the transformative stages of preconception, pregnancy and postpartum. This also includes the years of child-rearing which can be very stressful on the mental of the woman. With most of the care children receive, coming from the mother it is important to ensure her mental health is addressed holistically to ensure a more profound and lasting wellness for mother and children. Some of the characters I embody and look to express into my patients is compassionate care. Recognizing the unique emotion and psychological challenges that women and children face. I seek to create a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment where my patient can be heard and empowered. I also seek to provide a holistic approach in caring for my audience. Collaboration and advocating by working with other healthcare providers, utilizing community resources are effective to ensure my patients received coordinate care that is comprehensive to ensure all aspects of their lives are covered. In essence, my philosophy is grounded in the belief that if you take care of the woman during her childrearing years, they can positively cater to the children who will in turn, yield a more healthy community that can bring about positive changes for the world at large.
As a mother of 6, the mental well-being of a mother has always been an aspect of my life that has been of great concern to me. I have had the pleasure of dealing with postpartum depression, anxiety, PTSD and adjustment disorders. This made me realize how as a nation we need to do better when carrying for those who bring forth our next generation of kids.
The MSN program granted me the ability to see the various disorders and treatment plans that can affect the woman and how effective psychotherapy and psychotropic measures can turn a situation around when used correctly.
For me, I have it my focus to study the top 10 mental health disorder that affect my audience and community to ensure that will make me an excellent PMHNP. Utilizing the laws and clinical research, I believe I will be able to formulate new measures of treatment for this population and reduce the amount of undiagnosed disorders that tend to arise in late adulthood, when most of us are set in our ways.
