Description
HOSA - Health Occupations Students of America
Throughout all 4 years of high school as a freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior.
Freshman and Sophomore years: Member
Junior Year: Social Media Manager
Senior Year: Vice President
I have been involved in HOSA throughout all of my high school journey: from general member to Social Media Manager during 11th grade and now Vice President during 12th grade.
As Social Media Manager, I communicated information about meetings and opportunities to members and shared useful resources I found through Texas HOSA, including study and tutoring opportunities, upcoming events, and preparation resources for HOSA competitive events. This role allowed me to help members stay informed and connected to opportunities within the organization.
As Vice President, I’m taking on a greater leadership role in preparing members for their HOSA competitions. I’m currently responsible for leading health science events and helping members prepare for their preferred competitive events in that category. My goal is to encourage members to take their events seriously, dedicate time to studying and preparation, and feel confident going into competition. So far, I helped organize and encourage members in a car wash fundraiser to help reduce our dues for competitions. Also, I have arranged meetings for members to work with colleagues specialized in their fields of health science to further prepare them for the future competitions.
SASA Dance - South Asian Student Association
Participating since sophomore year up to current senior year (All throughout school year for 2+ years)
Freshman: Member of club
Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Years: Dance Member of the SASA dance team.
I have been a member of SASA Dance since sophomore year and have participated in performances at a variety of school and community events. I have performed during school pep rallies, Carnegie Vanguard’s iFest, and events at other schools such as Bellaire. I have also helped out in terms of volunteering and performing in special cultural celebrations such as our Holi and Diwali events.
Through SASA, I have been able to celebrate and share South Asian culture with my school community while continuously developing confidence in performing, teamwork, memorization, and commitment through our rehearsals and performances.
TurnUp Internship
Attended the internship in sophomore summer break.
Became an intern in charge of social media posts and poster designs to advocate weekly topics on civic engagement.
During the summer before junior year, I became part of TurnUp organization as an intern that focuses on grassroots activism and civic engagement. I earned approximately 30 volunteer hours through activities involving community outreach and increasing awareness of opportunities for young people to become involved in civic and volunteer activities.
As part of the internship, I contacted community members about opportunities for civic participation and helped increase awareness among young people about getting involved early through platforms such as Mobiize. I also created posters and other educational materials based on topics we studied each week. The experience gave me an opportunity to communicate with people outside of my immediate school environment, work as part of a youth-oriented organization, and learn how grassroots organizations engage communities and young people to participate in political events.
Science National Honor Society
Been a member since junior year up to current senior year.
A member who actively helps tutor freshmen and sophomores in their science courses like biology or chemistry.
I have been a member of Science National Honor Society for two years. Through SNHS, I have participated in STEM-focused activities and attended guest-speaker events featuring individuals discussing science-related topics, careers, and experiences. These activities have allowed me to explore scientific interests beyond my classroom coursework and learn about different areas of STEM from people with experience in those fields.
I have also engaged in tutoring sessions with freshmen and sophomores in their current science courses such as Biology or Chemistry to help advance their knowledge and do their best for their future tests.
Book Club
2+ years of high school since sophomore year
A member of the club just to participate as part of my interest.
I have been a member of Book Club since sophomore year. During meetings, we discuss the monthly book selection, share our interpretations and reactions, and explore the themes and morals based off the story. I take a deep interest in participating in discussions about everyone’s perspectives on the same book, bringing in my own ideas that can lead to great quarrels I enjoy talking through.
I have also participated in collaborations between Book Club and Film Club, where members watch film adaptations connected to books we have read and discuss the difference between the written and visual versions.
Through Book Club, I continue to read outside of school assignments as I continuously develop my ability to analyze literature, listen to different perspectives, and engage in collaborate conversations.
Foster Care Student Awareness Club
Part of it for 2 years: sophomore and junior years
A member of the club in these two years out of interest and care.
During my sophomore and junior years, I participated in Foster Care Student Awareness Club, where I took part in volunteer activities that involve supporting children and patients and bringing positivity to them during the holidays.
One of the service activities I participated in involved wrapping gifts for children/patients during Christmas season. I also participated in creating cards for patients around fall holidays. These activities gave me an opportunity to contribute directly to service projects rather than simply attending club meetings. Through the club, I learned more about the importance of supporting individuals that experience through difficult circumstances and found ways to contribute through meaningful acts of service.

HOSA Medical Terminology
2024
Earned first place in a state-level medical terminology competition in summer break before freshmen year.
One major accomplishment I’m proud of is my growth within HOSA. This organization has always been a part of me since middle school. Before even arriving to the US, I’ve always been fascinated by science, especially about nature and space. But deeper than that, I have a desire of learning about the composition of living and nonliving entities in this world. Whether it be through a biological perspective (cellular level such as through genetics) or through a chemical manner (chemical composition of an object as part of the ecosystems), I want to understand deeply about how they interact and connect with each other so efficiently that leads to the world we call “life.” HOSA, for me, has been a great way for me to discover this query of mine since then, allowing me to gain insight into understanding and gaining knowledge from scientific/health scientific fields to continuously expand my query with bigger questions on the meaning of life. Before freshmen year, I had positioned myself in a standing as part of an international competition after clearing the state-level, helping me attend events that help us gain further insight into our lives in the medical fields and what we would discover through those paths. The day when I attended the international competitions was one of my greatest personal accomplishments because the day before my exam were many hosting events held by great medical organizations known for sponsoring the events of HOSA. Their advices and speeches about giving insight into our future paths had really made me understand the benefits of each field, leading me to truly decide where I want to head toward in my life while continuing my interests in the STEM field. It helped me understand how my love for research and science can lead down to multiple paths and opportunities for me to continuously indulge myself in order to expand my horizon of learning what “life” truly means.
