I am a dedicated Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over twenty-five years of experience working with the incarcerated mentally ill. My strengths are the ability to provide swift and efficient multi-tier levels of mental health care. I recently graduated from Walden University as an advanced practice registered nurse and was able to evaluate of 650 patients during my clinical rotation with multiple mental health diagnosis and substance use disorders. My career consist of 20 years of service with the Department of Corrections as one of the lead nurses on a crisis bed unit. I have the ability to adapt to high stress environments, multi-task, and perform the many roles warranted to maintain homeostasis in the work environment. Since Graduation I have come to the conclusion that I am only half way in my career and plan to attend medical school to obtain my degree in Forensic psychiatry, so that I can continue to serve the general population at an advanced skill level.
I am currently employed at community health centers of America which is Federally approved clinic providing mental health to the underserved population throughout the central valley. I provide mental health services which includes medication management, mental health evaluations, and medication management to the populations of Californians covered by medicare and medical insurances. I manage various mental health disorders for individuals of a different cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds.
At diamond House Detox I took a 90 day temporary assignment assessing, diagnosing, and creating treatment plans for individuals who suffer from multiple mental health diagnosis and substance use disorders. I was active in the acute treatment of client's from admission until completion of their intensive outpatient programming.
Supervisor of a 160 bed unit with 80 acute psych and 80 geriatric
patients. Supervised 16 staff from 06/96-10/02. Responsibilities
medical and mental health assessment, crisis intervention, organize
transfer to emergency services, new admit assessments, employee
conflict resolution and staff management.
Assessment, and nursing care for the incarcerated admitted from
the country jails, and other detention centers. Lead nurse of
receiving and release. Evaluation and treatment provided to 50-60
patients daily. Initiated in-facility nursing protocols for detoxing
from alcohol and opioids. 1:1 supervision for suicidal and self-
harming patients. Administration of emergency medications to
manage violent behaviors.
