Work History

Research Assistant

CAL POLY
CA
11.2024 - Current
  • Worked with Dr. James Antony in a research position in my school in research pertaining to memory, prior knowledge, and neuroscience.
  • I was selected through a program called BEACoN out of hundreds of other students.
  • In my position I had to code an AI Language Model called the universal sentence encoder in order to retrieve data.
  • Monitored project timelines, ensuring timely completion of tasks while maintaining high-quality output.
  • Proctored and give tests to many college students.
  • I worked independently in many aspects and that meant taking initiative on parts of the project in order to complete it in a reasonable manner.
  • I managed to then present the research at a conference at Cal Poly to the rest of the school.

Volunteer

Crisis Text Line
09.2024 - Current
  • During my volunteer experience in Crisis text line as a counselor, my main responsibility is supporting and helping people on crisis via text, such as people with suicide ideation, depression, self-harm, eating disorders, anxiety, and gun violence.
  • Being empathetic and using active listening with my patients rather than only using the traditional approach of thinking about suicidal ideation as the gateway to suicidal behaviors, asking the suicidal cognition scale questions which can render people vulnerable and adolescents reluctant to disclose suicidal feelings for fear that health care providers will share that information with their parents or can cause patients to hide their true thoughts.
  • Managed high-stress situations effectively, remaining calm under pressure while providing compassionate assistance to callers in need.
  • Developed rapport with callers, offering a safe space for them to share their feelings and concerns.

Research Assistant

CAL POLY
CA
09.2024 - 06.2025
  • Worked with Dr. Codie Place in research pertaining to de-escalation techniques that police officers can use in encounters.
  • I have gained experience over many aspects of the research processes with Dr. Place.
  • I have learned the ways to enter and manipulate quantitative data.
  • I learned how to present data in a comprehensible way.
  • I have assisted in coding interview responses for qualitative data.
  • Dr. Place has also shown us the processes that it takes to write and submit a research article and what it takes to make a successful journal article.
  • We also presented at the 2025 World Psychology Association conference in Las Vegas.
