During the peak of the quarantine, my friends and I founded Borderless Coders to be able to provide free coding, ELA, social science, art, and science classes to students from underserved communities around the world. Over the course of three years, we taught over 600 students from all over the world, including students from Argentina, New Zealand, United States, Greece, Germany, Kyrgyzstan, and much more.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Strategy: Led a team of 30 individuals to define and implement the vision, mission, and strategic direction of the organization. Lead initiatives that align with the organization's long-term goals and continually evaluate the effectiveness of these strategies.
- Team Management: Oversee the Design, Social Media, Human Resources, and Instructor teams. Create a supportive work environment, provide guidance, resolve issues, and ensure team members have the necessary resources to perform effectively.
- Curriculum Development and Instruction: Contribute to the development of the coding curriculum for Python, Java, and HTML/CSS and directly instruct students in Python, Java, and Adobe Photoshop. Regularly review and update the curriculum to ensure it remains relevant and effective.
- Community Outreach: Implement initiatives to reach underserved communities globally and provide free coding lessons. Cultivate partnerships with community organizations, schools, and other entities to expand the reach and impact of the program.
- Design: Lead the design of promotional materials, including posters, to market the organization's programs and initiatives. Ensure the brand's message is clearly and consistently communicated across all materials.
- Social Media and Communication: Oversee the organization's social media strategy to raise awareness, increase engagement, and support fundraising efforts. Ensure the organization's vision and mission are effectively communicated to the public.
- Human Resources Management: Foster a positive, inclusive, and productive work culture. Oversee recruitment, training, and retention strategies, and ensure the organization adheres to relevant laws and regulations.
