I have been a Labor and Delivery Nurse for 16 years now at a County Hospital that sees 150-180 dleiveries a month, majority of which are high-risk OB patients. I alternate as a Bedside Nurse but most of the time, assume a Charge Nurse role. I do triage, antepartum, labor, postpartum, Newborn care. I also circulate in the OR for Cesarean Sections/BTL/Postpartum Curettage and does post-op monitoring in the PACU following those procedures mentioned. . Being in a fast-paced, high intensity unit requires that I’m able to adapt to the challenges that my work demand such as ensuring that my skills and educational ability is at par to what is currently being practiced in accordance with hospital policies. Respectful communication is of utmost importance to me especially when assuming a Charge Nurse role, having to deal with the physician and the rest of the medical and nursing staff, and to the patiient’s family as well. I am a believer of empathy playing a huge role when dealing with the latter. Other qualities that I imbibe are the following: great team player, being organized and systematic, ablity to work wiith people of diverse cultures, open to learning, ability to adjust to certain situations.
