Work History

Quaker Houghton

Logistics and Compliance Lead
03.2016 - Current

Job overview

  • Developed and wrote a comprehensive Logistics Compliance Manual for Houghton International. Researched and devised all 143 pages of the manual specifically for what Houghton, now Quaker Houghton handles under reg. CFR 49. This scope includes DOT training, packaging selection, shipping papers, cargo segregation and handling of all hazardous chemicals. Quaker Houghton has not been served one single citation for any DOT or IMDG violations since implementation in 2018. After two comprehensive audits conducted by FMCSA no Haz mat compliance issues were sited and no fines assessed. Training materials have saved Quaker Houghton over 150K by eliminating outside 3rd party organizations conducting training on site.
  • Coordinate between 3PL’s for freight management and day to day logistical operations. I manage the annual freight spend of $10 million plus Dollars in America and Canada. Accountable for all data analysis and reporting on logistics spend. This is not just on carrier cost, but also on two way tote fleets, IBC cleaning costs, RMA’s, Expedites, claims, and updating monthly fuel costs.
  • Delivered process improvements within logistics. This included standardizing our BOL’s in JDE and our manual shipping papers. Working with customer service to ensure third party billing is correct at order entry and freight Inco terms are followed. Accountable for documenting and implementing new procedures such as expedite requests and IBC rental deployment for new business. These improvements have eased margin cost leakage which was previously unchecked and not reported.
  • Evaluate risks to Quaker Houghton and the safety of it's employees. Turned a safety issue using our megatainer at Zion, IL into the conversion of utilizing a bulk truck fleet dedicated model at this site. This will save 10% of annual operating costs, lessen complexity and improve service to all bulk customers.
  • Implemented new logistics policies and strictly enforce them in North America. No dangerous goods are to be shipped via airfreight or small package, courier. No hazardous materials are to be transported or picked up by customers in pick up trucks or personal vehicles. Sales are forbidden to store hazardous samples in their homes or garages. Correct tools are now purchased and used to secure drum bungs and totes caps. Each work station has torque wrenches and these are clearly labeled for use at all filling stations.
  • Own and manage all returnable IBC's. Have modernized totes we utilize and continue to standardize the fleet. Trimmed current rental fleet to cut costs by $40K in 2022 and $75K in 2023.
  • Strategically worked with procurement with all freight RFP’s, bulk and packaged goods. Took ownership analyzing all data presented to us by candidates bidding for QH business.
  • Logistical implementation of any new third party warehousing from a cost savings transportation perspective. Evaluate correct storage, segregation of dangerous goods from a compliance and risk perspective.
  • Subject matter expert to evaluate company assets we have purchased through acquisitions. Responsible for compliance audits. This scope can range from dry van trucks, small bulk trucks, two way IBC’s and DOT training and record keeping.
  • My integral role within logistics is to drive results through collaboration, communication and improving efficiency. Cut wasteful spend. Utilize my expertise to reduce risks and manage uncertainties.
