Ajay Khashu is an experienced applied researcher, data analyst, and program evaluation expert with over two decades of experience in the nonprofit and education sectors. He is the founder and principal of Youth Studies, Inc., where he leads large-scale evaluation and performance measurement projects for a wide range of youth-serving organizations. Previously, he served as Research Director at The After-school Corporation and as a senior research associate at the Vera Institute of Justice, where he currently serves as a member of its Institutional Review Board. Proficient in R, SAS, and STATA, Ajay brings deep expertise in quantitative analysis, program evaluation, and data-driven strategy. He has also taught statistics as an adjunct lecturer at NYU and Hunter College and is a proud alumnus of Hampshire College.
Serves as principal and research director, leading a wide range of evaluation and data analysis projects for youth-serving organizations. Services provided include: (a)Program evaluation; (b) Ongoing technical assistance to monitor progress toward goals and objectives and use of quantitative and qualitative data to drive decision-making; (c) Training in a variety of areas. Responsibilities include: managing a team of research professionals, preparing research project proposals, designing and implementing research protocols and data collection instruments, conducting statistical analysis, report writing, and oral presentation of findings.

Led evaluations of publicly-funded after-school programs and other research projects that contributed to the long-term growth of quality out-of-school time programs. Served as principal investigator overseeing evaluations for more than 100 initiatives serving approximately 20,000 students.
Principal investigator responsible for all aspects of research design, methodology, budgeting, grant writing, and team management. Research included analyzing complex administrative datasets; designing evaluation instruments; conducting interviews, site visits, phone surveys and other qualitative research; and providing technical assistance to government officials. Main area of application was youth institutions, including education, juvenile justice, and child welfare.
Conducted strategy development research for a large trial research firm. Responsibilities included: facilitating focus groups, survey writing and analysis, and conducting post-trial juror interviews.
