Projects

Wing Box Structural Analysis

  • Built a half-span wing box model in Femap (skin, spars, ribs, stringers) with mixed meshes for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Performed stress, deflection, and buckling analyses in NX Nastran; validated results with mesh convergence and manual checks., Optimized component sizing to reduce weight while maintaining required safety factors.

Advanced Pilot Trainer Aircraft Design

  • Collaborated with a 7-member team to design an advanced pilot trainer aircraft, applying aerospace engineering principles.
  • Led mass properties and structural analysis, calculating weight distribution, center of gravity shifts, and moments of inertia using SolidWorks and Excel to analyze performance and improve stability and maneuverability.
  • Designed the subsystem, airframe, wing box, and landing gear layout in SolidWorks to allow for an aerodynamic design while optimizing weight and space requirements.

Propeller Design and Testing

  • Modeled four propeller geometries in SolidWorks and 3D-printed them in carbon-fiber-infused PLA; reinforced high-stress regions identified by running FEA with NX Nastran.
  • Balanced each propeller and conducted a 33-run wind tunnel campaign (thrust, torque, acoustics, smoke flow) with load-cell instrumentation; validated results through flight tests on a DJI Mini 2 SE.
  • Optimized Bambu Studio print settings to produce smooth, dimensionally accurate propellers.

Conceptual Aircraft Structural Study

  • Conducted structural analysis on a conceptual aircraft using aerospace methods and models.
  • Developed a MATLAB tool to adjust design variables and evaluate weight and performance tradeoffs.
  • Collaborated in a team environment, meeting deadlines and contributing to an iterative design process.
