Started off as a route salesman for fasteners to auto body shops.

After couple of weeks took over sales and operations of company and changed operations to selling fasteners to jobbers nationwide. Was given partnership in the company.

  • Started GPSonSALE.com in1998 to learn about e-commerce
  • Was working at Lee Fasteners at the time and I wanted to have a good understanding of e-commerce before I took Lee Fasteners on line
  • Started off selling Magellan hand held GPS units on line and progressed to multiple products and brands in a few years as GPS equipment developed
  • Our largest supplier was Garmen and went into their lines of marine electronics
  • Included in that was vehicle tracking products
  • As part of that obtained contract with Pennsylvania Department of Correction to supply vehicle tracking devices to their vehicles and supply their on-line access to them
  • The contract with the Dept of Corrections lasted about ten years until we were eventually phased out due to state contract with telecom companies
  • For several years was doing5 to7 million dollars a year in sales out of my home in Arizona
  • In2008 the real estate crash happened and I had substantial property in Arizona which average a70 % drop in value
  • At the same time GPsonSALE was no longer profitable due to growth in competition that forced sales into unprofitable margins
  • After the crash had only one piece of real estate with a positive value, a rental home in Pflugerville, TX
  • All the other properties were liquidated at huge losses and bankruptcy declared in2012
  • Bankruptcy saved house and401K
  • As soon as bankruptcy finalized sold house and liquidated401K
  • Used those funds to open Cuppa Austin Coffee Shop, which has now been in business12 years
  • Have used the executive form of management from the beginning because do not feel that I should be working in a high volume stress filled position into my60’s and70’s
  • Last year I had ten employees and went12 months with zero turnover
  • Right now I only have2 employees with under5 years barista experience
  • My managers have been with me7 years

During my time at ABC Liquors I became very proficient at hiring and training for all position, especially managers.

During this time I hired a young man as janitor (only position open at the moment.) Soon had him inside as a sales clerk. When opening became available moved him to my assistant manager. Helped him go to manager of his own store.

Today he is COO and runs the entire 150 store company
