Duties: I repair, modify, overhaul, reassemble, test and troubleshoot aircraft transmissions, gear boxes, etc. in a training and developmental capacity up to and including, under close direction, the full range of work performed by the journeyman of this trade. As a junior member of one or more overhaul teams, focuses on assigned components of the transmissions or on specific transmissions. I review historical records, physical condition, and appearance of units inducted for overhaul and determine if item is a possible candidate for CM or minor repair program. I disassemble items designated for minor repair. I then determine repair needed. I rework or replace parts required to restore item to serviceability. If extensive damage is discovered after disassembly takes appropriate action to assure proper authorization before additional work is accomplished. Work can be required in the disassembly area of the shop with lower grade repairers and helpers. Work can also require the examination and evaluation (E&E) of aircraft parts in this shop. I check parts and items to be used to determine proper identity and assure serviceability. I certify completion of work requirements on work documents, record any required measurement data, and completes required entries on historical documents.
I retain a good knowledge of mechanical principles to perform work involving disassembly, examination, repair, modification, overhaul, assembly, and test aircraft transmissions, gear boxes, and related power train components. This also requires knowledge of shop and trade practices id a practical knowledge or principles governing the behavior of fluids as they pertain to hydraulic components reworked or overhauled. I have skills in the use of measuring instruments such as torque wrenches, micrometers, go-no-go gauges, multimeters, feeler gauges and tensiometers. I select the appropriate tool for the job, e.g., determining whether to use pneumatic wrench, speed wrench, ratchet wrench, or endwrenches, and the pattern of tightening and amount of torque to apply to assure a solid connection without overstressing any parts.
Duties: I perform a variety of repetitive duties assisting painters engaged in applying paint to aircraft engines components, parts, assemblies, as well as other than aircraft parts. I check item for obvious flaws and applies preservatives. I perform painting duties such as applying paint that requires close tolerances, mixing paint, or spraying primer coats under the close supervision of higher graded Painter. Mixes and apply sealing compound to transmissions, gear boxes and other components. In accordance with written or verbal instructions, I apply standardized methods to clean surfaces, scrape and check surfaces after painting. I applied stencils by reading blueprints, schematics. I trained & certified in making stencils with computerized GERBER machine. I prepared aircraft by mapping & masking areas not to be painted; smoothed scuffed & sanded areas to be painted. I apply T.O.s requirements to mixtures & used various kinds of solvents & pre-coating agents such as Paint, Varnish, Epoxy, Teflon, Paint Removers, Alkali & Phosphate compounds, mixtures and antigrowth agents. I used tools & equipment such as spray guns, straight edges, viscosity tester, graining devices, wire brushes & rollers. I scrape spackle & putty surfaces. I mixed & applied pre-coating agents, adding alkali compounds. I prepared coating materials. Tinted, toning, matching, blending & mixing various additives thinners. Prepare surface of aircraft with preparation & coating methods/techniques, as well as match, texture, and thickness requirements. I applied coating materials & read directions relating to mixture use & application of different paint-related materials, such as solvents, coating and pre-coating agents, paints, paint remover, epoxy. I have use tools/equipment of trade, such as spray guns, spray pot, viscosity testers. I sealed & primer with top coating & stenciled engine, vertical, wings & fuselage. I checked surfaces after coating to assure no sags and no touch ups are needed. I trained on mixing & thinning of coatings & other process's of C-5. I assessed for corrosion & applied proper treatment to correct future corrosion problems to include de-paint, blasting & other surface preparation in absence of painting work. I prepped coating materials to ensure proper mil thickness & flow consistency using cup & electro static paint guns, air assisted paint pump and pressure pot. I sprayed paint to structures of aircraft matching tints, tones & blend of coating to correct gauge color tones after drying paint. I would thin & mix paints according to specific T.O.s specifications. I applied paint coating to aircraft surfaces & assure it was free from blisters, sags, runs or drips. I am exposed to fumes, spray paints & other conditions. I operate man-lifts such as boom, Scissor & Skyjack lifts. I am responsible for inventory of painting equipment. I perform a variety of work assignments involving brush, roller and/or spray painting. I have been trained on OSHA Regulations, policy and procedures, food prevention. I have also completed Star 4 D training. I also know shop safty procedures to get the job done. I have also completed training courses such as job hazard analysis, security awareness, enhanced vpp employee training, anti-terrorism awareness, suicide prevention, annual ethics, combating trafficking training.
