California State Seal of Civic Engagement

The California State Seal of Civic Engagement Award, marked by a gold seal on diploma transcripts, recognizes high school graduates who have demonstrated excellence in civic engagement by working towards advocating for meaningful solutions to a community or social problem, demonstrating quality reflection of student activities and growth, and having peer mentor testimony of relevant student civic activities. I successfully created a focus project on sexual abuse cases within my school district by collecting and conducting intensive data analysis and mitigation efforts to this problem. As this project better informed me on the challenges that many students within my school faced, I was able to reflect on how I could make an impact to implement positive change. This reflection was then shared to school board members, peers, adult endorsers and principals, leading us to change the approach our school had when dealing with these cases.
