Juvenile Institutions Officer

Monterey County Probation Department
Salinas , CA
2008.04 - 2013.03

During my 5 years at the Monterey County Probation Department, I was assigned to the Juvenile Hall. While working at the Juvenile Hall, I also worked the Home Supervision program. This was a program that allowed the juvenile’s that were on probation to be allowed and do their custody time at home versus Juvenile Hall. This arrangement was conducted by the attorney and the Juvenile Court judge. Some of my responsibilities as the home Supervision Officer was to make home visits, speak with the parents of the juvenile, and also with school staff. At times I would have to speak with employers in order to confirm that the juvenile was at work, as the juvenile had to check in each time they left and returned home. This required several reports to be generated and given to the Courts.

During my employment at Juvenile Hall, I was also tasked with being the Officer In Charge (OIC) of the institution. This occurred when there was no Supervisor of shift. Some of the tasks that needed to be completed were:

  • Oversaw the safety and security of the facility.
  • Supervise approximately 15 officers and 100 juveniles.
  • Complete daily reports.
  • Receive new intakes from outside agencies.
