As an E.M.S. physician, responsibilities included stabilization, documentation and institution

of emergency treatment as per existing protocols before transfer of patients to O.R./I.C.U./ward

under the care of the concerned departments. Duties also involved ambulance transfer of

critically ill/elderly patients from their homes to the hospital. Procedures performed in the E.R.

included securing I.V. lines, insertion of urinary catheters, insertion of nasogastric tubes, gastric

lavage, blood sample for arterial blood gas analysis, wound suturing and dressing, use of

E.C.G., pulse oxymeter, cardiac monitor, administration of oxygen and other vital drugs and the

use of automated external defibrillator in situations of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.

Duties included evaluation and stabilization of all emergencies in the E.R., documentation of
individual cases and transfer of patients to O.R./I.C.U./ ward following stabilisation and carrying
out necessary investigations and procedures in the E.R. including but not limited to gastric
lavage, insertion of central/peripheral lines, bladder catheterisation, lumbar puncture, intubation,
wound suturing, reduction of dislocations of shoulder joint and mandible and administration of
I.M./I.V. drugs. E.R. duties also required the use of defibrillator, E.C.G., cardiac monitor, pulse
oxymeter, sample collection for A.B.G. analysis, administration of oxygen and other emergency
drugs. Assisted gastroenterologist in upper G.I. endoscopy.

Worked as a resident in the departments of Medicine and Nephrology. Attended patients in the

general medical O.P.D. and in the wards and I.C.U., assisted Ophthalmologist in medical/

ophthalmology camps and was on regular rotation duties in the casualty and dialysis unit.

Procedures performed included use of defibrillator in the I.C.U., gastric lavage, I.V. drug

administration and insertion of urinary catheters.

As a resident in the Dept. of Neurology, got training in the diagnosis and treatment of various
neurological disorders. Other duties included assisting neuro physician in the neurology
outpatient department, patient care in the I.C.U. and wards and regular casualty duty posting.
Diagnostic procedures performed included lumbar puncture for C.S.F. analysis, intubation, naso-
gastric tube insertion, collection of blood sample for arterial blood gas analysis, securing
peripheral lines for I.V. drug administration, gastric tube insertion for gastric lavage, wound
suturing and dressing. Casualty/I.C.U. postings also involved the use of E.C.G., pulse oximeter,
cardiac monitor and institution of C.P.R. with the use of A.E.D.

Responsibilities included conducting general outpatient clinics and in charge of the inpatients.

Practical procedures included the use of E.C.G., urinary catheter changes, wound suturing and

routine dressings.

Had exposure in the fields of Medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery, and Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Assisted Physician in conducting general outpatient clinics, Gynecologist in conducting

hysterectomy and caesarean section, and Surgeon in conducting appendicectomy, cholecyst-ectomy, hemorrhoidectomy, and chest tube insertion. Independently conducted normal deliveries

and tubal ligation as part of the Family Planning Programme. Also performed excision of

sebaceous cyst, wound suturing and dressing, I.M./I.V. drug administration and C.P.R.

Community outreach activities involved immunization programs, conducting weekly medical

camps in far off villages with referral to base hospital for patients requiring continued and

advanced medical care.

Underwent twelve months of Compulsory Resident Rotating Internship training in various

departments which included three months of Community Medicine posting at a Peripheral Health

Centre. During the internship programme, apart from the various clinical postings, was also on

regular casualty duties on a rotation basis. Practical procedures performed include securing

peripheral I.V. lines, I.M./I.V. drug administration, bladder catheterization, gastric lavage, oxygen

administration, wound suturing and dressing, foreign body extraction from ear canal and nasal

cavity, reduction of shoulder/ jaw dislocation, perform C.P.R., conducting normal deliveries and

insertion of I.U.C.Ds. Community Medicine posting involved attending general outpatient clinics,

catering to displaced patients in the flood affected areas, conducting evening clinics for local

communities, and treatment and referral of patients to tertiary care hospitals
