Summary

I didn't expect to work with the disabled community when I was younger, but I fell into it when I turned 18 and I've learned so much since. I've learned how to redirect behaviors, the different ways people can communicate, what stimming is and how fun it is! I've also learned that some of the therapies we provide today for disabilities are still harmful and that more advocacy is needed - but all too often our advocacy can lead to us speaking over the voices of those we're trying to help most. Advocacy can take another form though - it can look like teaching a person to advocate for themselves or it can look like fighting society until it is ready to listen to other kinds of voices.

Interests

My favorite parts of the jobs I've had have always included the different communication styles that I have incorporated throughout the years I have experience in basic ASL, PECs, and various communication devices This has pushed my interest in pursuing more experience relating to SLP work

I have spent the past few years in various online disability groups ranging from general disabilities to more specific ones that I was personally working with or interacted with in my personal life These communities have provided me with unique perspectives, new ideas for accomodations, and an even greater push towards improving what I can
