As an event runner I have also learned and enjoy so much. As an event runner I learned so much about how banquets works. As a runner in this hotel I assist with the setup and breakdown of the dining area before and after service hours for events, gather all silverware, chinaware, glassware, heat lamps, etc. I run all the food for the events and I also assist the chefs as needed. Growing day by day I also assist with stewarding supervision when I am needed and have learned to take action and lead with respect and great efficiency for our department.
When I became a busser it was like a whole new experience to me. Being a busser I was more front of the house which was a different but a great experience. Being front of the house meant me working more with guest. Working with guest meant more talking and learning new things every day. As a busser at this restaurant I would buss tables, run food , polish sliver and glass wear, stock waters, make coffee, reset tables, and I even had the opportunity to train a new coming busser. I learned so much as a busser and am glad I took the opportunity.
My experience working as a steward was nothing easier than housekeeping, what I noticed is that both departments maintain busy and keep you active throughout the whole work shift. Working as a steward I learned everything about chinaware, silverware, glass ware and all kitchen tools/gadgets used in a hotel. As well stewarding is know to be a cleaning department so I also learned how to clean walk ins, ovens, fryers, hotboxes, coffee machines, etc. As a steward my main focus was to clean , sanitize, and organize all kitchen ware.
My experience at Hilton wasn't like any other job. For it to be my first job I will say it was tough but a good learning experience. As a house person at this certain hotel I was basically the whole housekeeping department in one. We would do everything from stripping rooms, cleaning carpet stains, delivering guest amenities, organizing storages, changing curtains, even working in the laundry some days. Our main focus, was always maintaining our areas (floors) clean and safe for the guest coming and leaving our hotel and making it the best overall experience for them. I will say for it being my first job it was really humbling and a molding moment. Working there made me the worker I am and see how the housekeeping part of the hotel functions in detail.
