I first started working at the local Boys & Girls Club. The development of youth has always been my passion. My work included coaching sports, mentoring, supervising, and being a positive figure in every child’s life. I was a youth counselor, sports coordinator, and teen coordinator at the Boys & Girls Club of West Springfield for nine years. Prior to working at the Boys & Girls Club, I was a member for nine years and a volunteer for two years. After working at the Boys and Girls Club, I accepted the ASR/Assistant Dean position at Hampden Chart School of Science. In this position, I would work with students that were dismissed from class. From there, the students, teachers, and I would work together to figure out how we could avoid them coming to my office again. I worked for Hampden Charter for five years. The greatest moments I have had in my time as a youth counselor/mentor was seeing former Boys & Girls Club members and students graduate High School and College. I continue to mentor youth from the Boys & Girls Club after they have left our program.
During the COVID Pandemic, multiple positions, along with my own, eliminated. Instead of waiting for something to happen for me, I took the initiative and applied as a custodian in the City of West Springfield. I worked in that position for a year before I accepted a position at Eastman Chemical in Indian Orchard.
I’ve worked as a Chemical Operator at Eastman for the last two years. As a chemical operator, I am tasked with handling various corrosive and flammable chemicals, while also operating the Delta V system in the Control Room that runs our Process. Chemical Operators must be aware of their surroundings and how our Process works. As a Chemical Operator I am trained to use fire extinguisher, in lockout tagout, fire watch, hole watch, eagle monitoring, and vessel entry.
I have worked for other Businesses and Organizations part time. I worked at City Sports Grill in Northampton, as a bar-back, for two years. For the last eleven years I have worked at the Maine Sate Building at the Big E. Also, I helped organize and run an annual charity basketball tournament at the Boys & Girls Club, the Whip’s Tip-off Classic.
