Research Project: Sustainability Assessment of Head Royce's South Campus Development, January to May 2025. Semester long independent study project assessing the sustainability of Head Royce's South Campus development in the Spring of 2025. Interviewed Cahill construction representatives to gather information on the use of sustainable construction practices, toured the construction site to evaluate the sustainability of the materials, energy systems, landscaping, EV infrastructure, stormwater management, and historic building and material re-use. Analyzed the use of low-impact materials including ash-integrated concrete and re-used redwood, as well as the preservation strategies including existing trees, buildings, and materials. Quantitatively compared LED lighting with incandescent and fluorescent alternatives, calculating the estimated kilowatt-hour savings and potential reductions in school energy consumption. Synthesized findings into a research paper and presentation that including findings that the development demonstrated a successful approach to sustainable construction through adaptive reuse, low impact material use, energy efficiency and ecological site design.
Research Project: Analysis of Maine's Legislative Document 1949 (LD 1949): An Act Regarding Energy Fairness, Spring 2026. Analyzed Maine's LD 1949 legislation signed into law on March 23, 2026. Analysis included the policy impacts, stakeholder perspectives, and implementation requirements. Conducted state and federal policy comparisons on strategies to reduce electricity costs and improve consumer projections and energy access. Synthesized the legislative, economic, and environmental data and information into a policy portfolio and final analysis. Assessed the bill's outcomes and potential long-term impacts on energy affordability, energy access, and utility regulation in Maine.
