Work History

Jailer

8 Years 4 Months
Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office | 04.2018 - Current
  • Conducted regular security checks to maintain safety and prevent incidents within the facility.
  • Supervised inmate activities, ensuring compliance with facility rules and regulations.
  • Managed inmate classification processes, facilitating appropriate housing assignments based on behavior and needs.
  • Implemented effective communication strategies among staff to enhance team collaboration and response times.
  • Was promoted to the rank of Cpl in 2019-2020. Then promoted to the rank of Sgt in approximately 2024.
  • As a Sgt my duties were to ensure all tasks were being completed and were completed properly. As well as the safety of the inmates in my custody and the jail staff under me.
  • I took pride in creating a positive work environment where jail staff became as close as family. An environment where my staff made sure each other was taken care of.
  • Part of my tasks was investigating incidents inside the facility, managing inmate housing and working the booking area. I would investigate any fights, officers' involved fights, respond to medical emergencies, as well as write a detailed report on these events.
  • I was also in charge of verifying my shift was covered if we were short staffed, this included sitting on inmates in the hospital and making sure enough jail staff were inside of the facility to run it per jail standards.
  • I was also tasked with conducting a briefing every shift with the previous shift as well as passing on any pertinent information onto my shift before they start for the day.
  • In the booking room, I was in charge of booking in any incoming inmates that were arrested and brought to our facility. Classifying them, verifying any medical issues they may have and requesting mental health evaluations when necessary. I was also tasked with assisting with pulling court and or tdcj chain if necessary.
  • I have experience with inmate transport as well due to assisting our transport deputies on a number of occasions. Whether the situation be transporting an inmate to the hospital, doctors appointment, court, another county for detention, or a tdcj facility.
  • I would also regularly answer any questions my jail staff had in reference to jail standards or their routine duties whether I was on shift or not. As a supervisor you are never off the clock and need to be ready to answer your phone when work calls. Whether it be to answer a question in reference to a situation or to respond to the facility to assist when requested.
  • I also have trained numerous jailers over the years. Teaching them everything from policy, jail standards, defensive techniques, and the importance of safety and security in the facility, for the inmates and for themselves.
  • I coordinated training drills throughout my time here. Namely fire drills as required per jail standards. I would on numerous occasions on a quiet night, run man down drills to keep officers on their feet and practice responding to a medical emergency.
