• Pack materials and equipment in different types of shipping containers, special boxes, and crates, bracing heavier items at the bottom of the containers so that they properly support each other.
• Construct and repair wood, fiberboard boxes, dividers, or protective framing for individual shipments or specialized storage.
• Develop internal drawings and specifications to safely package odd or unusual-shaped material and equipment.

• Secure freight such as heavy, unbalanced machinery, vehicles, and equipment; industrial plant equipment; artillery; odd-shaped containers; large explosive bombs, rockets, and missiles; nuclear materials (i.e., reactor materials); sensitive electronic equipment; large communication shelters; and similar cargo in a variety of containers and inside or upon conveyances such as ships, aircraft, vans, gondola cars, boxcars, and barges.
• Perform a wide variety of standard and specialized preservation and/or packing work. Uses various protective cushioning and bracing techniques for custom packing of a variety of items, including hazardous materials, to ensure safe and damage-free movement.
• Use and maintain various types of hand and/or power tools, such as nail and staple guns, hand saws, radial saws, circular saws, hammers, joiners, and squares, etc.
• Perform duties in a safe manner, utilizing safety practices and procedures, and complying with established safety rules and regulations.
