• Primary surgical first assist on Lung Transplants, ECMO cannulation/decannulation/conversion, procurements and post-operative care alongside two Thoracic surgeons - Dr. Machuca and Dr. Pipkin.
• Intra-operative rolls encompass opening of clamshell incision, first-assisting entire explant and implantation, placement of chest tubes and cryoanalgesia, closing w/ sternal wire placement, bronchoscopy and peripheral/central VA-VV ECMO cannulation. 89 lung transplants logged as first-assist as of 10/01/2024.

• Primary surgical first assist in variety of Thoracic Surgery cases including lung cancer/lobectomy, LVRS, complex Sarcoma resection w/ chest wall reconstruction, decortication/pleurodesis/pleurectomy, mediastinal resections, ect; via open, VATS or Robotic-assisted approach.
• Intra-operative rolls include placement of ports, robotic-bedside assisting, removal of specimens and closure - either VATS or thoracotomy.

• Manage surgical issues on ICU and Floor as needed. Perform bronchoscopies, place chest tubes, place ECMO cannulas under TEE or fluoro guidance, place CVL, a-line and PA catheters.

• Independently see consultations and clinic patients.
• Cover call 24/7 split between three Physician Assistants.

• First assist in Robotic, VATS and open lung/tracheal/esophageal surgeries, VV and VA ECMO cannulation/de-cannulation, Lung Transplant cases, bedside procedures such as Tracheostomy placement, chest tube placement, PEG placement, bronchoscopy.
• Manage ICU and floor patients on ECMO, pre/post op care.
• Provide care for up to 30 patients independently in clinic in person or via telemedicine.

• Lead student in the Dermatology Research & Practice Scholars (DRAPS) Program under Mohs Surgeon Dr. Armand B. Cognetta
• Perform local anesthetic, first assist in MOHS surgery, help coordinate research studies among patients and trained to perform them in the clinical setting.
