Seeking to earn full time employment in the healthcare field as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Intern/future CNS in the oncology setting that practices within patient, nursing and organizational spheres, and furthers personal education, experience and exposure to a diverse population of people in the metropolitan Cleveland area.
In the field of dermatology – I assist the MD or APP in performing biopsies, collect HPI, review patient allergies, medication lists, chief complaints, triage patient messages and calls and provide education to patients on treatments for eczema, psoriasis, acne, Cutaneous T-Cell lymphoma, hidradenitis, skin cancers and other various complex skin conditions. Time is spent answering patient questions and triaging patient concerns. I frequently check in and follow up with the patient to see if their condition is improving or worsening. I relay lab and biopsy results to patients and answer appropriate questions. I work alongside resident doctors and am involved in the interdisciplinary team and plan for the patient moving forward. I orient new nurses and am a resource for all staff on the unit. I help to coordinate patient’s Remicade, rituximab and IVIG infusions both within and outside of the institution. I was a co-chair in the first shared governance committee in Dermatology and projects were carried out on the unit including the “stop for sharps” (to prevent needlestick injuries to clinicians) project and creating the resource binder for new dermatology nurses.
On med-surg units - performed detailed assessments on patients, gathered medical history on admission, distributed medications (oral, IV, and parenteral routes), worked with an LPN as a team, provide education on admission and discharge to patients on home-going medications and procedures, provided wound care on both superficial and stageable wounds, delegated to nursing assistant on patients and assisting with needs, assisted in code situations during acute changes to patients well-being, interpreted telemetry strips and EKGs, communicating with NPs, PAs, and MDs throughout the shift to update on patient condition. Also have worked as a charge nurse and a preceptor to nursing students.
