Work History

Inclusion Teacher – 5th & 8th Grade Science, 8th Grade Social Studies

KIPP Truth Academy
01.2024 - Current
  • As a dedicated special education professional, I assessed students’ academic and functional skills to determine individualized educational needs and adapted general education lessons to support diverse learning styles. I designed and implemented differentiated activities aligned with each student’s abilities and collaborated weekly with general education teachers to co-plan inclusive lessons. My instructional delivery included whole-group co-teaching, small group instruction, and one-on-one support. I developed and maintained Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), monitored progress toward goals, and conducted regular assessments to inform instruction. I maintained consistent communication with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators to ensure a cohesive support system. I facilitated smooth student transitions between grade levels and post-school pathways. Additionally, I supported ARD preparation by scheduling meetings, conducting classroom observations, drafting PLAAFP statements, and compiling student work samples. I served as a contributing ARD committee member, proctored state standardized tests, administered MCLASS DIBELS for progress monitoring, and participated in LPAC meetings to help make placement and instructional decisions for English language learners.

Paraprofessional, Special Populations GAIN 5th-8th

KIPP Truth Academy
01.2023 - 01.2024
  • I supported the lead teacher in preparing and delivering instructional lessons, administering assessments, and facilitating small group instruction tailored to student needs. I provided individualized support and closely monitored student progress, offering behavioral assistance and contributing to effective classroom management. I maintained accurate student records and assisted in the preparation, use, and upkeep of instructional materials and equipment. Following the direction of the special education teacher, I worked directly with students with special needs and frequently took on lead responsibilities in the teacher’s absence. I assisted with ARD documentation and preparation, maintained communication with parents, and supported parent-teacher meetings to strengthen family engagement. This role allowed me to develop a deep understanding of student-centered support and instructional planning.

Planned Career Break

01.2012 - 01.2019
  • During my planned career break, I took time away from the workforce to care for a family member experiencing a medical setback and later became a full-time caregiver and stay-at-home mother to my children, both of whom were diagnosed with special needs. This experience provided me with firsthand insight into the challenges faced by families navigating disabilities and deepened my understanding of individualized care, patience, advocacy, and persistence—qualities that directly enhance my effectiveness as a special education teacher. Through managing therapies, advocating for services, and creating structured home routines, I developed a strong foundation in supporting diverse needs. This period reinforced my passion for education and strengthened my ability to build empathetic, inclusive, and supportive learning environments for students with disabilities.

6th Grade Mathematics Teacher

Academy of Dallas
08.2011 - 05.2012
  • I designed and delivered engaging math lessons tailored to meet the needs of diverse learners, ensuring content accessibility and promoting academic growth. I maintained a structured and focused classroom environment conducive to learning and collaborated regularly with parents and guardians to support student success beyond the classroom. In addition, I administered assessments and closely tracked student performance to inform instruction and guide academic progress.

Tutor

Group Excellence
10.2010 - 05.2011
  • I tutored students in reading and math using curriculum-aligned materials to reinforce instruction and support academic achievement. I developed individualized study strategies and implemented confidence-building techniques to help students overcome learning barriers. Through one-on-one and small group support, I identified academic weaknesses and tailored interventions to address specific skill gaps, promoting both understanding and independence. While tutoring services were primarily provided after school alongside other tutors from Group Excellence, I also had opportunities to support students during classroom instruction alongside teachers. During this time, I worked with several Dallas-area schools, including Boude Story Middle School, Harold Budd Elementary School, Justin F. Kimball High School, and David W. Carter High School, gaining valuable experience across various academic levels and learning environments.
