I have been a Dental Assistant for about seven years. I started at Dentistry for Children as their treatment coordinator and soon became obsessed with learning the dental field. I then asked to be trained for hygiene assisting, xrays and sterilization while still maintaining my position as the treatment coordinator. I also kept inventory for them and completed all ordering for the office. After I learned what I thought was everything I could learn from D4C. I then relocated to North Georgia and was quickly hired at Hickory flat. I have worked there twice. The first time in 2021 I started as the receptionist for only a week and their traveling pedo team asked for me. I only worked with that team as a temp. for one day and the Doctor went above me to have me as his assistant. After a year of traveling for sedations I decided to change career paths. I worked for a small time as a CNA and with in six months I returned to the dental field. Hickory flat hired me right back but this time as a general assistant. Since I have been back I assist the general doctor three days a week and two other speciality doctors two days a week. Perio being one and pedo being the other. Patient care is my up most priority however for perio surgeries I also verify and send pre authorizations when needed to ensure I give the patient the best estimate to my knowledge for an out of pocket cost for a procedure. Considering implants, implant bridges, overdentures etc. can be so costly. I do the same for pedo because my doctor stresses about meeting production numbers and I ensure both schedules are full.
Verified insurance for sedation. Sent pre- authorizations for sedations/ dental treatment to be paid for.
Collected medical history information for potential sedation patients to "pre-screen" for to ensure they met the medical guidelines for IV sedation.
Scheduled appointments.
Completed sedation consults.
Kept the providers production at a goal they wanted to meet.
