My job is to ensure that my clients are building skill acquisition. I preform their TA’s and ensure that they are building skill to love day to day life, without erasing their diagnosis. I truly believe as a behavior therapist, that their diagnosis isn’t a defiance on their character. I work alongside their BCBA and navigate challenging behaviors. These include, aggressions, eloping, disrobing, self-injurious behaviors, mouthing, etc. My duty at the clinic is to ensure they are safe, welcomed, and also striving. We preform DTT and watch them grow through each prompt, leading to them passing their PROBES! We then apply NET data and see how they are progressing in real life situations. A real example of this would be a child does not like to share. When a child is playing and it is time to take turns, they may aggress. Sometimes, it isn’t a harmful behavior. They may tantrum, throw objects, elope, or any other behaviors/attention seeking behaviors to escape the expectation of sharing. We work together as a team, day by day, to allow this child to understand why they share, and an appropriate way to advocate for themselves. My clients have my best interest and my goal to build those skills is always sky high.
