I perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy-duty equipment, as well as, tactical and automotive vehicles, semitrailers, and the accessories of the equipment. I troubleshoot and repair a variety of different mechanically complex systems to include, automatic transmissions, heavy duty drive line systems, and hydraulic utility systems, as well as, and fuel injection systems. I make repairs to assemblies and components such as voltage regulators and brake cylinders, for use or placement in systems for which they were not specifically designed. Improvise work when standard procedures inapplicable. I troubleshoot equipment with many different complex major systems and diagnose many different problems and the cause of mechanical failures by using different forms of checks, whether visual or auditory. I use test equipment such as code readers, engine analyzers, compression testers, voltmeters, pressure gauges and computer diagnostic tools. I use embedded diagnostics in equipment and many different specialized original equipment manufacturer system analyzers to find the exact cause of the problem and the full range of what the repair may need. I determine if there may be any changes to the work order or if there are any other repairs that may need to be done to complete the work order completely. I remove, overhaul, as well as other complex systems, components, and fuel, hydraulic, and oil pressure systems. I perform the most appropriate repairs, overhaul, and/or modifications within the correct repair specifications and procedures, as well as, determine a different repair technique when the standard procedure may not be applicable. I make adjustments, test for any other faults and reinstall these systems back in vehicles and equipment as needed. I make adjustments and repairs to the electrical and suspension systems. I make repairs on equipment with a variety of interconnected systems such as electrical and electronic, fuel injection, and similar systems. I improvise or make alters to different components and parts to fit into systems in which they may not have been designed for or find other ways to correct faults when existing methods and procedures do not give desired results. I regularly perform repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment affected by the repairs, as well as conduct operational inspections and make sure the vehicles and equipment are serviced, including brake adjustments, replacing hydraulic fluids, and greasing equipment as need and perform other preventive maintenance operations as needed. I perform checks equipment prior to being used during Inactive Duty Training and Annual Training to ensure that it is operating correctly. At times, I inspect repair work that is in-progress to make sure the repairs of equipment are being performed within accordance to the specified requirements. I instruct operators and other members of the crew during maintenance of equipment and provide assistance to supported units when requested. I give assistance in the maintenance of production reports, plans, and organization. I make recommendations to the supervisor on ways to complete work in the most efficient and effective way.
