Due to my previous knowledge as a tile installer I was hired as a flooring associate at the Home Depot. My first 2 and a half years I spent mostly in the flooring department where I was able to work with customers a lot closer and provide proper knowledge on our products. The flooring department also sold carpets, blinds and all types of flooring so I was able to guide customers to the best options when taking their budget, projects and ideas into consideration. I also created quotes and appointments for customers when they wanted to purchase larger quantity of our products and have them professionally installed. I also worked in the paint department whenever they needed help mixing paint and providing great customer service. The last couple of months I moved to the rental department where I was able to clean, prep and rent all types of equipment from shovels and chainsaws to couple thousands of dollars of equipment like dump trailers. excavators and more.I left Home Depot for about a year and am currently back since last year of May. 3 years and 2 months at the end of the year.
As an order picker I was able to get large quantity of orders bagged, labeled and organized to the delivery drivers in an orderly manner. I was one of the top order pickers the expectation was 90 plus items scanned and bagged an hour and my average was 100 every shift.
In this position I was able to read a blueprint and accurately install the light switches, outlets and light boxes before wiring. Id use all types of equipment like volt meters, heavy machinery like excavators, boom lifts, scissor lifts and 20+ foot ladders to install low voltage wires throughout an apartment complex. With over 7 buildings to prep and wire I was able to complete rooms, halls, basement areas and much more within deadlines.
This was my very first Job and even though I was in High school at the time I was able to keep up with all my school work and be an above average associate. The first half of my time at walmart I was working in the front end as a cashier, greeter, cart pusher and did janitor work when needed. I did some training for customer service and did large amount of money transfers, returns and dealt with unsatisfied customers. When I turned 17 (the second half of my time at walmart) I switched over to a stocker where I was put in charge of my own little afternoon crew. I was in charge of unloading pallets from semis using electric and regular pallet jacks. I organized the backend, unloaded all kinds of pallets, got them ready and organized for stocking and even worked overnights to finish any leftover work from previous associates. All this while still being able to cover the front end whenever it got too busy or had call outs.
