  • Researching the loss of chaperone protein HSP90 in Astyanax mexicanus cavefish eye formation. Funded through URAF HCRP.
  • Mastered PCR, LB/Agar plate making, gel electrophoresis, gel extraction, PCR purification, microinjection, mini-preps, glass needle creation, fluorescent microscopy, use of the dissection microscope, screening of embryos, fin clips of adult fish, unfertilized egg collection, husbandry and mating of fish, restriction digests, Gibson cloning, in vitro transcription, bacterial transformation, imaging of adult fish, and machine competency in lab equipment such as Thermocyclers, nano droppers, and microcentrifuges.
  • Generated four novel transgenic lines of zebrafish: cryα (a lens-specific promoter) driving the reporter mcherry and T2A DN-Hsp90, cryα driving just mcherry, fli1 (a vascular tissue promoter) driving eGFP, and fli1 driving eGFP and T2A DN-Hsp90. All were facilitated by a Tol2 transposon.
