I would pull students to work 1-on-1 with them in areas they were struggling. I also had a whole-group time where we learned new topics and skills. I oversaw field trips, parent-teacher conferences, and fundraisers. We were able to raise enough money to buy iPads for center time to introduce some technology skills into the classroom. We used a creative curriculum throughout the day.

We focused on Smekens writing there as well. We consistently integrated social studies, literature, and language arts. We would choose novels to read based on what we were studying in social studies and sometimes science. We would use our language skills to edit the essays that went with our novels and units. We had literature circles once a quarter. I also had lunch duty for life skills class every day. I was able to step into any role to sub where I was needed from kindergarten up to 8th grade.
