Currently on orientation learning the basics of pediatric cardiology and management of a pediatric patient with short term and chronic cardiac abnormalities. All training goals that have currently been reviewed and performed on orientation include head-to-toe assessments, EKGs, bladder scans, arterial line management, central line management, blood gas interpretations (familiar on use of GEM 5000 machine), medication administration, management of respiratory equipment, caring for patients with invasive and noninvasive respiratory support, preoperative care and postoperative care (including immediate recovery for all cardiac surgeries and cardiac catheterizations) and interprofessional collaboration with team.
Provides outstanding care to both patients and families by performing both critical and basic procedures/care activities to treat patient physical ailments and emotional needs. Participated in bedside shift report, conducted complete head to toe and focused assessments, performed foley catheterization insertion and removal, administered oral/enteral/IV push/IV piggyback medications, inserted and removed IV's, assisted patients with ADL's, educated patients on medications and plan of care, inserted NG tube for gastric decompression, initiated enteral feedings through gastrostomy tube, adequately used charting system for documentation.
Assisted in preparation of bedside procedures and admissions for critically ill children (directly from the ED or NICU), assisted in specialized wound care/dressings (postoperative/open and closed chest dressings), preformed EKGs, assisted patients with ADL's and physical/cognitive development, measured height/weight/vital signs/intake and output, prepared and fortified breast milk for infants, created a safe and calming environment for Baker Act patients.
