As a new nurse, I was enrolled into a program called StaRN. This program was a didactic and clinical based preceptor-ship that aloud for me to learn specific skills that are required of an emergency room nurse prior to entering the department. In the didactic portion of the program I acquired many certifications. I also trained in simulations with my co-workers and was taught how to recognize when a patient is critically ill.

During my time at North Florida Regional, I was able to take care of very sick patients. This hospital is known for being a comprehensive stroke center. I took care of vented patients, stroke and stemi patients, Baker Acts, Laboring patients and many more. I have been involved in codes and in trauma alerts. I became a preceptor during this time (11/18-01/19). It was a pleasure to be able to help guide a new nurse into the emergency department with the knowledge and experience that I have.

  • I have performed in-services on emergency equipment such as the EV-1000 to my colleagues and have also been involved in evidence based studies within my department.
  • I performed research on blood culture contamination and educated staff on proper techniques for obtaining blood culture specimens.
