As we receive online equipment reservations, I pull the necessary gear to fill orders and input the gear into our online reservation system. I hold various responsibilities such as maintaining late returns or missing gear, holding monthly staff meetings, creating quarterly work schedules for the staff, and efficiently communicating with my employer on how to better our workplace into a healthier and more welcoming environment. Through this job, I am able to become familiar with outdoor gear and working outdoors, communicate efficiently with my coworkers and employers, maintain an organized workspace, and promote the healthy and joyful environment of UCSC Adventure and Recreation.
My Summer internship with the UCSC PPDO Groundskeeping team consisted of various gardening and maintenance tasks such as watering, weed pulling, pruning, trimming, and waste disposal. Through this opportunity, I was able to gain the experience of working outdoors for long periods of time, while forming friendships with an important and beloved part of the UCSC community.
As a File Clerk for a professional law firm, I examined and sorted all incoming mail, implemented and monitored filing systems for easy access of necessary records, scheduled medical appointments for various clients, and complied essential documents for trial preparation. Through this opportunity, I was able to develop skills such as speaking professionally over the phone and via mail, multitasking and task management, and maintaining a professional attitude in the workplace.
