  • Perform supervisory duties for non-sworn administrative positions in the NICS Regulatory Services Component; to include work distribution, scheduling, performance reviews, and training initiatives. Ensure that employees present a competent and professional image.
  • Review daily correspondence from the courts, solicitor’s offices, and drug labs to determine if offenses would prohibit a person from carrying and obtaining a weapon or obtaining a concealed weapons permit, and if that person falls under NICS denial and/or revocation policy. Handle all correspondence to individuals entered in the NICS Indices and handle all correspondence received from individuals on appeals and/or reliefs.
  • Manage approximately 30-40 incoming calls, emails, faxes and other databases per day where documents are submitted for entry.
  • Gather information for FBI/NICS audit team and answers questions regarding audit. Organize and maintain files on all NICS Index entries.
  • Organize and collect statistical data as needed for supervisory staff and ensure that all departmental files are properly maintained and secured. Interpret laws, regulations, policies, and procedures as related to the NICS Regulatory Services section. Assist section supervisory staff as needed.
  • Attend and conduct training on NICS to outside entities, including law enforcement partners, and attend and present at conferences.

  • Coordinate training with the Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC) at agencies throughout the state. Assist with in-person training for Terminal Agency Coordinators (TAC/ATAC) to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

  • Make contact and consult with source document providers responsible for the completion of vital statistics documents. Aid in interpretation and application of vital records laws, regulations and/or procedures.
  • Serve as first point of contact for document source providers (funeral directors/staff, physicians/staff, coroner/staff, birth clerks and hospital administrators) on issues affecting the registration of vital events.

  • Serve as liaison between various disciplines involved in the vital records registration and certification process including the Funeral and Medical Board.
  • Contact document source providers on delinquent registration, queries and supplemental reports via telephone or by personal appointment; document case histories of habitual offenders and monitors deliberate non-compliant licensed funeral directors and physicians.
  • Perform audit of security paper document control logs submitted by all regional staff monthly to ensure validity and accuracy.
  • Provide guidance and advice to document source providers, including funeral directors, coroners, physicians and birth clerks on correction and/or supplement of birth and death records based on acceptable evidence (worksheets) and adherence to South Carolina law and regulations.
  • Assists in conducting lectures and/or acts as program participant in the dissemination of new or updated policies, forms manual and procedures including local, regional and statewide Vital Records workshops, seminars and in-service training programs related to all program functions.
  • Plan and conduct regional death and birth training for delivering facilities across the state; occasional overnight travel required.
