Surgery scheduling has helped me develop a lot of new skills in different ways. My day as a surgery scheduler consists of working closely with patients to see what works best for them when scheduling their procedures in the clinic and over the phone. Another major skill that I have developed is being able to work with insurances in order to get certain procedures approved, and if they have been denied, I can communicate really well with the patient to see what else can be done. I am required to provide instructions for procedures so patients can make sure they don't encounter issues. Organization is an important skill in this job role since there are many different procedures that I am working with on scheduling, so I need to make sure I don't make mistakes. Sometimes we have to do more urgent procedures, which require me to prioritize the prior authorization and help me develop good time management skills.
Working as a nursing assistant/unit secretary requires a lot of compassion for others' well-being, and providing high-quality care in various ways. I've developed skills to help patients with daily activities, such as walks, baths, bathroom needs, food intake, etc. Along with the care they receive, vital signs also play a big part. This includes taking their blood pressure, glucose checks, oxygen levels, respiration levels, etc. I can provide a clean and safe environment, allowing patients to feel comfortable, as well as anyone visiting them. I developed great communication skills in scheduling appointments, transferring families to patients, reporting any changes in conditions, and speaking with healthcare professionals, etc. I have also learned to multitask, finishing prioritized work first, while still keeping an organized environment for myself and others to make the workflow better.
As a Kitchen Leader, a skill I developed was to keep the workspace clean in order to maximize productivity and safety. I have to make sure we are keeping dishes clean and sanitized, as well as consistently keeping adequate supplies on hand for any expected customer load. Being able to multitask plays a big part in being prepared for any expected busy periods throughout the day. day. Food safety is our top priority. There, I am expected to monitor food temperatures throughout the day and follow any safety procedures. Working as a team with my peers allows for a safe environment for our customers and ourselves.
