Level I Trauma Center & Verified Burn Center

• Assume care of critically injured patients directly from trauma bay, flight team, and operating room.
• Responsible for care of 1-2 acutely unstable patients presenting with life-threatening injuries such as MVC/MCC, GSW, severe thermal and electrical burns, inhalation injury, crush injury, drowning, postpartum hemorrhage, stroke/intracranial hemorrhage, traumatic amputations, and associated complications such as compartment syndrome, hypo/hyperthermia, diabetes insipidus, SEPSIS, ARDS, MODS, cardiac arrest, and brain death.
• Provide trauma specific stabilization and resuscitative care during massive blood transfusions and fluid resuscitation, titration of critical IV drips by interpretation of hemodynamic monitoring values, and OR/anesthesia recovery.
• Assist trauma surgeons with bedside procedures on patients too unstable for transport to OR such as intubation and RSI, tracheostomy, burn debridement, exploratory laparotomy and abthera placement, PEG tube placement, chest tube insertion, and central line placement.
• Manage care of complex neurologic insults and conditions including severe traumatic brain injuries, depressed skull fractures, fresh craniotomy and craniectomy, bolt care, EVD and ICP monitoring, brain death assessment and testing while working with organ procurement specialist.
• Perform complex burn care including daily debridement and dressing changes on patients suffering from large TBSA burns ranging from partial to full thickness of the face, ears, neck, circumferential torso, extremities, hands and feet.
• Strict adherence to VAP, CAUTI, and CLABSI prevention protocols.
• Demonstrates cultural awareness communication and supportive skills in caring for patients and families at the end of life.
• Participates in monthly Unit Practice Council meetings to discuss process improvement and patient care initiatives.

• Performed rapid initial assessment and stabilization of emergent patients in a fast-paced, 72 bed Emergency Department.
• Decisively and confidently made judgments on patient conditions based on vital signs, patient presentation, history, and initial assessment; triaged to appropriate zone; activated specialized team when indicated (stroke team, sepsis alert, trauma alert, cath lab, interventional radiology, VAD team, etc.).
• Provided critical care to patients experiencing acute, life threatening emergencies such as STEMI, CVA, PE, cardiac arrest, and trauma.
• Performed and assisted with conscious sedation, rapid sequence intubation, ventilator management, cardioversion & defibrillation, initiation of critical drips per hospital protocol.
• Directly assisted ED physician with central line placement, intubation, needle decompression, chest tube placement, lumbar punctures, suturing & wound repair.
• Independently maintained safe and effective care of patients with different acuity levels in a time-restricted and demanding environment.
• Administered critical IV medications and fluids such as TpA, cardioactive drugs, blood products, and narcotics, while carefully monitoring for side effects or adverse reactions.
• Merged empathy and strong interpersonal skills by ensuring physical and emotional needs of patients and families were met during times of extreme pain, stress, shock, and grief.
• Provided safe care of patients experiencing acute psychiatric crisis, collaborating with social work, providing community resources/referrals, and coordinating transfer as necessary.
• Facilitated admissions and transfers, chart/care plan preparation, and coordinated with interdisciplinary team.
• Supervised/delegated to Paramedics, EMT's, PCT's and students.

• Assessment in conjunction with the ED RN.

• Perform EKG on chest pain patients within 5 minutes of arrival to ED.
