- I work part-time at an Amazon warehouse, where I'm trained in several different positions: Decant, Stow, Induct, Sort, and Pack. I started as a stower, and in the winter of last year, I decided to change paths and get trained as a packer.
- In the decant position, I'm responsible for opening the merchandise that arrives at the warehouse. I open the boxes that arrive at my station, place the items inside totes, scan the barcodes on the totes, and send the totes through a conveyor, so the merchandise can be inventoried later.
- In the stow position, I am responsible for inventorying the merchandise. Totes arrive at my station, and I must scan the barcodes in the totes and later scan each item inside the totes one by one, placing them neatly in a "pod," a type of storage device.
- In the induct position, totes with customers' orders arrive at my station, and I am responsible for scanning the tote's barcode and then scanning each item inside one by one and placing them on trays that will travel to the sorting side.
- As a sorter, I am responsible for scanning the trays' barcodes and placing items in the correct bins on the packing wall, corresponding with the computer screen at my station.
- As a packer, I am responsible for packing customers' orders as neatly and quickly as possible so that they can be shipped and delivered to Amazon customers.
- In my job position, I've learned to work in a fast-paced environment, meet the set standards for quality and quantity, follow safety precautions mandated by OSHA, maintain organization, and develop time management and problem-solving skills.
- During my shift, I perform the duties assigned, and often help other coworkers with computer issues, as well as assist them with their workload if they need to rest or if I have finished mine.
