Service Technician Engineer

Brandt/NOV Conroe, TX, Saudi Arabia
04.2005 - 12.2012

I have been trained by this major oil service company to field operate and maintain their complete line of solids control equipment. My training included in-house construction and repair of their equipment in the main manufacturing facility in Conroe, Texas. I also was trained to perform field service installations and maintenance of Brandt equipment in the Texas area.

  • I was chosen to accompany a team to install and commission a solids control package on the Global Santa Fe Explorer drill ship in Trinidad. My experience growing up in Venezuela made the transition to international travel and operating in a foreign country problem free.
  • In a short time, Brandt selected me for a unique position in Saudi Arabia where I have provided well site operation and maintenance duties for all company solids control equipment for Saudi Aramco.
  • Within 2 months of my assignment in Saudi, I was moved into a field supervisor position and tasked with soliciting a regular maintenance contract for Brandt’s local drilling rig customers. My initial challenge consisted of a field proving the economic value of the prescribed scope of maintenance services to the customers which would result in execution of a contract with Brandt for these services. Within 4 months, 2 contracts were secured covering 15 rigs. Services which I provided at the field level to prove the value of the contract were surveys on all the customers’ current equipment installations and recommendations on how to improve their operating and maintenance efficiency. Further services included regular visits to the customers’ sites to ensure the consistency of my recommended changes to their operating procedures. When I left Saudi Arabia there were roughly 80 rigs signed on to our preventative maintenance program.
  • In addition to field maintenance duties, as expected from a service company, I focused on sales responsibilities and customer interaction which I feel has always been one of my strongest points.
  • Explained diagnostic findings to customers and outlined repair or service options.
  • Installed new equipment and explained operation and routine maintenance protocols to customers.
  • Inspected equipment to diagnose operational issues.
  • Adhered to safety protocols and policies to reduce workplace hazards.

In the Army I specialized in communications where I was trained as a radio technician and operator on high tech radios. My job was to provide constant communication to all field sites. I also learned to take control of strenuous situations, work as a team, watch over fellow soldiers and make sure things got done the right way.

  • Maintained physical fitness levels to meet demanding operational requirements and ensure optimal performance under challenging circumstances.
  • Strengthened morale among fellow soldiers through active listening, empathy, and encouragement in difficult situations.
  • Developed strong leadership skills through rigorous training and hands-on experience in high-pressure situations.
  • Conducted regular maintenance of equipment and vehicles, ensuring maximum reliability and readiness for mission-critical tasks.
  • Trained in infantry tactics, weapons and medical procedures for well-rounded field support.
