I am a life long learner, always trying to improve and challenge myself. I have a strong interest in education, specifically in helping challenged readers. My passion shines through when I work with my students.
• Met the needs of Gifted and Talented students with advanced curriculum, challenging instruction and opportunities for growth.
• Created and implemented developmentally appropriate curriculum that addressed all learning styles.
•Independent classroom aide requiring minimal teacher direction. Provided customized assistance to children with a variety of special needs and made positive contributions optimizing learner engagement.
•Developed trust and rapport with children, providing assistance to teachers and engaging students in learning activities and positive behaviors to optimize their understanding of lessons.
•Developed innovative behavioral management approach. Often called upon to assist students during a crisis because of my ability to calm students and help them return to the classroom.
•Educated first through fifth grade gifted and talented small groups using research based learning, Junior Great Books and problem solving activities. Developed lesson plans based upon classroom learning targets.
• Assisted students to improve their reading skills and abilities to reach grade level expectations.
• Developed and maintained a weekly tutoring schedule allowing for approximately 15 – 20 kindergarten students to receive 20 minutes of small group instruction and 20 minutes of paired or one-on-one instruction each day using early literacy interventions.
• Supplemented the kindergarten tutoring schedule by providing daily 20-minute one-on-one tutoring sessions with 1st – 3rd grade students using prescribed literacy interventions.
• Assessed, with a high level of accuracy, students' continual progress through Progress Monitoring and Benchmarking.
• Interacted with and monitored students during various activities (e.g. play activities indoors as well as outside, snack time, homework, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
• Acted as a liaison between parents, staff, and school personnel; assist in conferring with parents regarding student performance and behavior as necessary.
• Monitored individuals or small groups of students; assured student understanding of program rules and procedures; maintain appropriate order and student conduct.

I achieved 100% fidelity during my 4th year of Reading Corps tutoring, which put me as the top tutor in the nation.
Over 4,700 volunteer hours in four years of service with MNRC.
